PHIL'S RIDER TRAINING Case studies.
Case Study #1 Client: Rob Harper
Experience : NONE until he met me!!!
When rob and I first met he had already done his CBT with another instructor, though the training was adequate he felt that something just didn't feel right, "not comfortable with what he had learned, felt there were ways he could improve" with the correct instructional techniques.
Instantly I could tell that he had the right attitude towards motorcycles and would be like a sponge and would absorb all i could teach him, I also wondered why this wasn't picked up by the previous instructor? with this we set about his "Step Up" (moving onto a bigger bike 500cc), almost istantly i could diagnose his problems and give remedial actions and solutions. He came on in leaps and bounds and then went on to pass his test 1st time "nice one rob".
with his thirst for knowledge about motorcycles still unquenched he went on to complete with flying colours the DSA run E.R.S. "Enhanced Rider Scheme" and is now moving onto trainig for his DIAmond advanced rider test, which i'm positive he will have no issues passing as now he a very skilled and competent rider and all within a very short space of time.
I like to call Rob my "Poster child for further rider development" as he recieved a grade "A" (no higher mark possible) and he now rides with the skill focus and ability of some of those who have been riding for years and years, Rob now rides a VTR firestorm 1000cc Vtwin which i can tell you needs to be handled with care at times and now wants to sell it for a deposit on a new machine! so when you pass you test with phil's school of motoring maybe you could get a bargain from him? Rob is away working for a while now but he can't wait to start his furhter development when he returns.. I look forward to it rob as it's your turn to buy the butties & coffee.

Case Study #2
Client: James Sutten (state secret he could tell us but then he would have to kill us all!)
Experience : 10+ Years "but not ridden all of them"
I first met james when he came to a school i was working with he wanted to refresh his skills and knowledge as he had not ridden for some time and was now getting "back to biking"! work, kids, Wife commitments (sound familier chaps)...
But however he didn't feel his needs were being met at that particular school so he came to me independantly for his training.. Now james in the past had done the I.A.M. advanced rider course but it was that long ago we started from scratch! Slowly but surely it all came back to james and he was beginning to enjoy the skills he had let slip. James also commented on the in depth knowledge that we "try" to impart on pupils who do the E.R.S. with the sole purpose of educating them to be as safe and secure as they can be though at the same time making good progressive progress whilst riding modern machines... James also recieved a grade "A" with his test... Oh yes ladies and gents there is a final assesment of your riding which is why a certificate is issued "on completion" and as James and others found out now this entitles them to insurance discounts...
Like Rob James is now booking his training for his DIAmond advanced test and I will keep all posted of his progress throughout.. James is now riding A CBR 1300 and is test riding a ZX10 and i think we will have to have the smile surgically removed from his face.......
For an insight into how james felt about his "further rider development" please look on the guest book page and read in his own words what he took form the whole experience!
UPDATE... James has now gone out and bought himself a brand spanking new FIREBLADE how gutted am I!!! but i do wish him all the best riding it nice one mate...

Case Study #3
Client: Andrew Connor (32)
Experience : 5 yrs CBT scooter rider / 125 rider Full bike licence holder "recently passed 3yrs ago"
Andy came to me via a relation and has now gone so far as to start his "Instructor Training course" and will soon be appearing on the meet the staff page as an insturctor "take a look"... (when he puts all his notes in one place that is).
Andy had some very serious problems when we first met "his EX being one of them" and he had forgotten the basic's when it comes to bikes "rear ob's & life savers" but I took out my beating stick and put things right again since then he has developed and gone on to complete the E.R.S. scheme and is eager to futher his skills and ablilities. Andy had the age old problem when it come to being a new rider he mixed up these two words "As we ALL do at some point" Ambition & ability we are full of one and not nearly enough of the other this is what we at PhiL's SchooL of Motoring aim to marry up that way hopefully they will grow together at the right pace. Andy now has two bikes LUCKY s*d an R-1 "nice" and an FZS 600 which he intends to use for training.
As james "above" did andy left comments too!!! honesty is the best policy "nice one andy"

Case Study #6
Client: Rachel Wolfenden (21)
Experience : CBT - still giving me heart attaks but will pass very soon!
Where do I start with this one web page just aint enough... They tell me never teach the ones you know and love how so very true.... rachel did her cbt with another instructor who we shall not name "BACK BRAKE" and did learn a thing or three but some serious retraining had to be done here!!! With that done she went onto her step up to (500cc) and started her lessons now on one of these lessons she decided it might be a good idea to stop the bike (as if in an emergency) "with her head" this clearly did not work and was carted of to hospital no damage done to her Bike was a write off...... But after much more care and cosideration as to what, why, where, and how we do things on a motocycle rachel is now preparing to take her test next week, and should be succesfull. Now rachel did the typical girly thing of deciding one day i'd like ride a bike and went out and bought one! a brand spanking GGGrrrrrrr CBF 600 nice machine to start with.. UPDATE!!!! rachel can do an emergency stop without using her head "she now uses the brakes" yey!!!! UPDATE!!!! 10/02/2009 rachel has finnally paseed her test after running a red light, cocking up the uride, and having them cancelled she stuck with it and is now the proud owner of a motorcycle lisense... well done you and GET YOUR CHIN UP!!!!!

Danny came to me through a couple that are friends to him that i had taught last year which they both passed too!! although he could ride he said it was very eye opening to things he had never considered before and now feels he is a much more focused & safer rider from the training he got from me, Danny also wants to move onto his advanced training and i'll look forward to seeing him in the new year, well done Danny but it should have been a clean sheet!
