what is and do i have to do
THE C.B.T. Course

If you obtained your car licence before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a 50cc moped

but we would advise you to take some training.

The CBT course was introduced in Decmber 1999 with sole purpose of reducing motorcycle related accidents by 30% within ten years, this was the goal the DSA set for themselves!
When in actual fact since it was introduced it has reduced motorcycle related accidents by over 77% within one year from it's inception...
Now you don't need to be a maths ace to see the obvious good that it has done and continues to do so!

The CBT course is predominantly aimed at younger inexperienced riders and the dare i say it "Born again riders" for the inexperienced it is obvious why! but the born agains raises questions such as... if i have ridden lots of bikes in the past and with more power than a 125cc machine why do i need to do this!

The answer is straight forward, Modern machines and technology means that bikes are now much more responsive, a lot lighter than they once was, have infinatly better braking systems & brakes, and more over all this we are now understanding the importance of education and encouraging a different mind set and attitude towards motorcycles and indeed riding them, "with safety for all being the main point!"

The myth surrounding the CBT is that it's childs play and anybody will be given the certificate..
this is not so, Sadly there are a minority of schools will hand out CBT (DL196) certs like confetty and the DSA are doing a great job of weeding these school's out and shutting them down.

The cousre itself is "NOT" a test it is guidence and advice to help you become a safer, more competent and confident road user whilst on two wheels.

So even if you are unsuccesful on the first day you can come back at a later date to complete the "COURSE" far too many people put them selves under too much pressure to get through it in one day and this does have an effect on how they actually perform on the day!

Here at PhiL's SchooL of Motoring we like to make the day go as smoothly as possible by keeping it light hearted yet serious at the same time, please take a look at the guest book comments you may find it helpfull.

The Examiners on Test

There is a big myth surrounding the examiners and you will hear stories such as... they only let a certain number pass at certain times! If they don't like you they won't pass you! they just want to create more work for themselves! and my personnel favourite If they had a bad day or night before your test then you've no chance!!!

Let me assure you once and for all this is not the case!

The Examiners are people doing their chosen job just like you and I they are fair, unbiased and let me tell you all VERY VERY qualified to do the job they do!

they want the roads as we all do! to be a safer place to be and enjoy the pleasure of driving just like you and I, they also hate the cost of carelesness just like you and I and hate to pay such high insurance, and other motoring cost's just like you and I.....

Look at it like this from now on and please pass this on to who you know, from the second you get onto
your bike or into your car you "have" passed you test! it is only when you make repeated, serious or dangerous faults that you start to go down hill, trust me the examiners get far greater job satisfaction from you passing rather than failing because this means far less paperwork to do "and we all hate that" and that the high standard of safe riding and driving in this country is being upheld and continued.

Please bear all this in mind when you do go for your test and remember they are just like you and I and have been through far more rigorous and stringent "tougher" testing than we will ever go through in order to do their jobs.
